Explore strategies to create an effective branding extension for TopTech, your go-to Starlink Satellite Internet Provider in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
How to develop a Branding Extension for a Starlink Satellite Internet Provider in the DRC
As Starlink expanded its market into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), it paved the way for exciting new opportunities. Major players like Vodacom and Airtel seized the moment, partnering with Starlink as resellers, and this is where the creation of TopTech RDC started. This venture led to the development of a distinctive visual brand identity as a brand extension. Meanwhile, TopTech South Africa, known for its expertise in catering, sought our help to craft a fresh visual branding strategy for their new tech store and brand application in Lumbumbashi, Congo. The result was a successful launch marketing campaign brought to life by The Giant Portfolio.
Join us as we explore the intricacies of branding in the satellite internet realm to learn about the steps for developing a Cohesive Brand:
1. Establish a Brand Strategy to create both standard and premium branding.
After thoroughly analyzing our client's brief, we always begin with a brand strategy to establish a strong foundation for a premium brand identity. Here are four key elements included in the Giant Portfolio's Brand Strategy framework:
Brand Core: Purpose, Vision, Mission, and Values
Brand Messaging: Personality, Voice, Tone, and Value Proposition
Brand Identity: Logos, Color Palette, Typography, Graphic Elements, and Photography
Brand Applications: Stationery, Apparel, Social Media Branding, Website, and Technical SEO

2. Initiate a Mood Board to guide effective Art Direction
Our second step focuses on conducting thorough visual research, drawing inspiration from the industry and competitors. Our mood board consistently includes the following four branding elements:
Graphics: We examine logos, icons, and various graphic components.
Typography: We investigate the most effective typography options that resonate within the industry.
Colour: While our colour choices are tailored to each client, we strive to ensure they convey the intended meaning.
Photography: Photography plays a crucial role in visual branding, so we always curate images that narrate a story aligned with the business and its products.

3. Review the Brand Guide to ensure a consistent brand identity
In this case, for Job Sims, the process was quite straightforward because we had already established a brand guide. Based on our creative strategy, we explored various solutions for different businesses under the same brand. After discussions with our client, we collectively decided to keep the logo unchanged and simply update the slogan to “Telecom Support Solutions.” Furthermore, we retained the original color palette, using cobalt blue as the primary color, while introducing a vivid azure blue as an accent.

Here’s a breakdown of our color meanings:
Cobalt Blue: Represents trust, stability, and strength.
Usage: Headers and background.
Vivid Azure: Symbolizes innovation, energy, and accessibility.
Usage: Highlights, buttons, and icons.
Black & Shades of Gray: Convey power, precision, and elegance.
Usage: Body text and call-to-action buttons.

4. Curate Iconography that reflects your service delivery
We wanted to curate an icon for each service that Toptech offers, as well as for the list of industries or business sectors they are targeting and offering services to. The icon we used was curated from Google icons because of its minimalism and simple design. Our iconography system is designed to visually represent TopTech’s core services in a way that’s instantly recognizable, mobile-friendly, and easy to understand — even at small sizes. Each icon follows a consistent design language that emphasizes clarity, symmetry, and function.
The list of services was categorized into 2 packages
Mobile Fleet management that consists of
Smartphones and Mobile Devices
Top-up of Call/Data Plans and Cost Optimization

5. Design Graphic Elements that align with networking themes
Incorporating graphic elements into a brand is essential for creating authentic decorations that convey a consistent message, making your brand unforgettable. TopTech’s graphic elements prominently feature satellite radar pin markers, which symbolize precision, reach, and real-time connectivity. This visual representation strengthens our mission to provide a powerful signal and service to every location, regardless of how remote it may be.
6. Develop Imagery and a Photographic Style that narrates a compelling story
TopTech’s visual identity showcases a vibrant combination of forward-thinking technology imagery and genuine human experiences.
The selected photography and graphic elements illustrate not only our innovative solutions but also the meaningful impact we have on people's lives — spanning from rural families to tech-savvy teams.
