How to Redesign a Logo and Create a Fresh Brand Identity for Renewable Energy
RES-Renewable Energy Solutions approached us to redesign and enhance their brand identity, aiming to distinguish themselves and attract more attention to their business. The existing logo appeared unprofessional when compared to the icon and its typography. Thus, we aimed to create an abstract icon fitting for energy companies and incorporate vibrant colors that symbolize renewable energy solutions.
Here’s how we developed a fresh logo and elevated the brand identity for RES in six steps:
1. Developing a Brand Strategy for a Renewable Energy Company
Working on Brand Strategy to define RES's purpose, positioning, and target audience
Here is what we’ve included in the brand strategy:
Brand Core: Purpose, Services, Target Market, Vision, Mission, and Values
Brand Messaging: Personality, Voice, Tone, Value Proposition
Brand Identity: Logo Concept, Colour Meaning, Typography Choice, and Imagery.
Brand Application: Business Stationery, Apparel/Merchandise, Website, SocialMedia Posts, Outdoor Marketing, Fleet Branding

2. Developing Renewable Energy Multiple Mood Boards
We have crafted two distinct mood boards as outlined below:
Industry Logos Mood Board: This collection features logo images from the renewable industry.

Inspiration Brand Mood Board: This board showcases a variety of visual elements, including logos, colors, text, icons, and photographs.

3. Morphological Matrix and Logo Sketching
This section focuses on the ideation process for crafting an appealing logo.
Three Logo Principles:
We adhered to three essential principles of logo design, which are:
Appropriate & Simple: The design should be minimalistic, avoiding unnecessary complexity.
Distinctive & Memorable: It should be easy enough for anyone to recreate from memory.
Simple & Versatile: The logo must function effectively across various applications.

4. Designing the Logo in Affinity Studio
The logo design process took place in Affinity Studio. Below are three options we presented to the client. Additionally, you can view an example showing the before-and-after versions of the logo.
5. Developing Brand Applications
Once the client has finalized their logo choice, we can move forward with the brand application. Utilizing the brand kit assets and elements from Canva, we have created various designs.
